Nel numero di dicembre del giornale degli studenti dell'USI " l'Universo ", è stato pubblicato il lancio del concorso, un breve articolo in cui si sono riassunti i punti essenziali del bando e gli appuntamenti da non perdere legati al progetto.
Errata corrige: è stato incluso tra i nomi dei giurati anche quello del direttore dell'Accademia Valentin Bearth. Tuttavia, anche se in definitiva non parteciperà ai lavori della giuria, il direttore è stato invitato a prendere parte del vernissage del 20 febbraio prossimo, di certo molto affollato!

Il mondo moderno è ad un momento di svolta, ed è ormai evidente che il paradigma principale per generare benessere, non è più un modello applicabile senza preoccupazioni. Siamo quindi in un mondo che, più o meno palesemente, è alla ricerca di un’alternativa per continuare il cammino del progresso, ma allo stesso tempo per regolarsi tra l’equilibrio dei ritmi e dei processi ambientali, sociali ed economici.

Un primo passo in questo senso lo ha fatto il rapporto Brundtland, del 1987, che definisce sviluppo sostenibile come “lo sviluppo che soddisfa i bisogni del presente senza compromettere la possibilità delle generazioni future di soddisfare i propri bisogni”. Ma qual è il significato pratico di questa definizione per la gente, e per l’architettura?
Siamo partiti dal basso, cercando il minimo comun denominatore tra le tante opinioni in merito. “Cos’è sostenibilità?”. è la domanda alla quale hanno risposto studenti, docenti e altre persone della comunità di Mendrisio. Il risultato è stato un arcobaleno di definizioni, un’indagine sull’equilibrio semantico del termine “sostenibilità”, sulle variazioni del suo significato, sugli equivoci, i malintesi particularly related to a term in vogue today not only in the technical language of engineers, politicians and activists.
